Housing
Programs that seek to meet the basic shelter needs of the community by providing temporary shelter for people who are in emergency situations, home improvement programs, housing location assistance and a variety of housing alternatives.
- Emergency Shelter: programs that provide a temporary place to stay for newcomers, travelers, people who are in crisis, or homeless individuals in the community.
- Housing Referrals: local housing programs that provide information about eligibility for and vacancies in the subsidized housing that is under its jurisdiction, accept Section 8 applications, provide Section 8 certificates, subsidize Section 8 rental payments, and/or administer public housing projects.
- Housing Search and Information: programs that assist people to find and select available purchasable or rental housing which meets their individual needs.
- HUD Counseling Agencies: agencies funded by the federal Office of Housing and Urban Development to provide prepurchase and mortgage default counseling and information about HUD rent assistance program for current and prospective purchasers and tenants.
- Transitional Housing: programs that provide extended shelter (longer than two weeks but typically sixty days or more) for homeless people who indicate a willingness to participate in developing and implementing a case plan which has as a goal eventual independent living.
- Transitional Substance Abuse Services: programs that provide alcohol and other drug-free congregate living arrangements, relapse prevention programs and other services which facilitate the return to the community of individuals who are recovering from problems relating to substance abuse, who may be leaving an inpatient or residential treatment program and who need ongoing support to sustain an abstinent lifestyle.
